History of National Hsin-Feng Senior High School

“National Hsin-Feng Senior High School” was once an agriculture vocational school.  Back to the time March 27th, 1929, the local residents of five neighboring towns, including Rende, Guiren, Guanmiao, Longqi, and Yongkang, set up the two-year “Guiren agriculture school” in order to cultivate local young people to professionals on agriculture.

In 1935, “Guiren agriculture school” was renamed as “Guiren Rural Youth School.”  In 1936, “Guiren Rural Youth School” was renamed as “Hsin-Feng Youth School.”  In 1939, “Hsin-Feng Youth School” was renamed as “Hsin-Feng Secondary School.”  In 1941, “Hsin-Feng Secondary School” was changed to the three-year “Hisn-Feng Vocational Agriculture School.” Before Taiwan was returned from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the title of school was changed five times and there had been four principals.

After the restitution of Taiwan in 1945, the school was renamed as “Tainan County Hisn-Feng Primary Agriculture School.”  Mr. Yu Shi-ling was the first principal. He was devoted to improving the learning environment and educational facilities of the school.

In August 1952, Mr. Huang Wei-ye was in succession to Mr. Yu. He started to take girls in school and the classes were increased to 8.  New classrooms, the laboratory and the library were constructed one after another.

In August 1956, the school was transformed to the five-year “Tainan County Hsin-Feng Agricultue Vocational School.”  From 1958, American foreign aid came in and helped construct a lot of buildings and increase teaching facilities.

In 1963, the department of domestic affairs was set up.  In 1965, Mr. Xu Yi-ming succeeded as principal.  He continued to establish the department of manufacture in order to catch up with the social trends.  In 1967, a student center was constructed.

On August 1st 1968, the government decided to extend compulsory education to 9 years.  Therefore, the school was renamed as “Provincial Hsin-Feng Senior High School”.  Then it was transformed to a comprehensive school of ordinary high and vocational school.  Mr. Xu Yi-ming was still the principal, keeping improving every aspect of school.

After 1972, the school stopped taking vocational students and concentrated on ordinary high school education, trying to balance the difference between urban and rural education.

In 1982, Mr. Guo Ruo-yu succeeded as principal.  He completed building up cultural galley, Hsin-Feng viaduct, dormitories for male and female students, 400-metered playground, language laboratory, audio and visual classrooms, science education building, and auditorium.

In 1991, Mr. He Ming-tang succeeded as the principal.  He believed in “providing education for all people without discrimination.”  In addition to improving learning environment, appointing fine teachers, and transfiguring school surroundings, he planned and completed building up tennis field, handball field, and swimming pool, endearing the school to local residents.

In February 1993, Mr. Wang Zeng-zhu succeeded as the principal. He bore the idea of “balanced education and proper development” to direct the school, expecting every student could develop himself/herself according to his/her own ability, interests, and disposition.  During his tenure of office, “Tian-Xia” building, science education center, teaching buliding, new library, “Hong-ji” building, “Shui-long” building and surrounding walls were built up.  At the same time, school offices were computerized and the whole school endeavored to raise the percentage of students’ entrance to colleges and universities.

In February 2001, Mr. Wang Zhe-zhu was reassigned to “Zheng-wen Vocational School” and Mr. Wang Jung-fa succeeded as principal.  He aimed to raise the percentage of students’ entrance to colleges and universities, build up confidence of students, create a learning custom and make a cooperative administrational team.  He set up a goal for all the staff that 80% of graduates could attend a college or a university.

There are about 1200 students in “National Hsin-Feng Senior High School” and the school occupies 8 hectares.  Public high school with large land and small amounts of students is rarely seen in Taiwan.  Since 1996, the school has been transformed to a comprehensive high school, which contains ordinary high school and vocational school, offering multiple choices for students.  We all look forward to the potential development of this school.
